Fred Parks and Cooking Autism partner for another fantastic Exceptional Chefs class!

February 24, 2019

On Saturday, February 23, Exceptional Chefs joined Cooking Autism at the Dorothy Hart Center kitchen for our monthly life-skills cooking class. On the menu; fun, socialization, education, and 12 different options of sandwiches that these chefs built from beginning to end.

ALL of our chefs experienced foods that they have not been introduced to before. Marshmallow fluff, crunchy and creamy peanut butter, sliced bananas, whole wheat bread were some of the options on the menu. Our chefs practiced their communication and decision making skills as they chose the ingredients they needed to build their desired snack. Many of the chefs tried a food they have never tried before. Veteran Lily loved the Fluff, while newcomer McKenzie enjoyed a whole grain bread with flax seeds. This was Emery's first time building a sandwich without assistance, and said that she could make her father one for his birthday today. We are so proud!

We are very thankful for the opportunity to partner with Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation. Our community is excited to to join us as we provide these life-skills programs for students outside the brick and mortar classroom setting. Our teachers are blessed to encounter the excitement of our young chefs as they are learning, socializing and experiencing new foods.

Would you or your loved ones like to join us at our next class? Our March menu will include bacon, eggs, sausage, and toast, with many toppings to chose from. Chefs, bring your appetites; this will be a delicious class!
